Ritual

By: Melissa Ratliff

She was wearing the necklace. She always wears it when she flies, holding it tightly and rubbing it during takeoff and landing. The green amber clutched like a heart in a single claw. Using it to project her love, thinking if something went wrong, they would be connected at the end. Nothing’s ever happened before, but this is different. The masks drop. She closes her eyes and grasps the charm. Will he know? Will he know that she was thinking of him? She hasn’t seen him in years. Would he even remember the necklace or know she was wearing it?
