The Tornado

By: Lauren Spagnoletti

It shows up without warning. Everything seems under control. But when something unexpected occurs, it emerges from within. Ugly, fierce, enraged. It doesn’t take much for it to show up: a slight delay, an off-hand comment, a change of plan. The slightest upset feels like a tornado sweeping through. And the grandeur of the reaction is equally as tumultuous.

Loss of control.

Tightness in the chest, rapid heartbeat, jittery hands, racing mind. They swirl up in the tornado and spin round and round, sweeping up everyone who is unlucky enough to be nearby.

Then it settles, and all is calm.
