Empty Bed

Mid-dream, mid-sleep, alone in the bed, she felt a strange presence and weight on the opposite side of the mattress, which seemed to creep towards her lone body. She sensed a form spooning alongside her back and thighs, cradling and warming her whole rear. Its ghostly spirit simultaneously comforted and frightened her; she dared not move in case she angered it or scared it away. How was it possible that she desired and feared something so much at the same time? She woke, afraid to turn over, not sure that she could face the emptiness on the pillow beside her.
