“Just relax, breathe, and imagine you are a delicate new little baby, your new vulnerable self emerging from the womb,” the long-haired, flower-crown-bedazzled marriage counselor crooned to the struggling couple. The past months had been a mess of screaming matches and broken dishes, and they thought this weekend at the retreat would reignite their passion; reawaken their dormant love. But as they lay entangled in a spooning nest of their own arms and legs, trying to “rebirth” themselves into a new vision of their partnership, the counselor started chanting “Push! Push! Push!” and they just dissolved into uncontrollable giggles instead.
